Twelve employees and suppliers from SIG Roofing, a National UK Roofing Merchant, are gearing up to embark on a charitable bike ride from Lewes to Paris on 19th June 2024 to raise funds for Leukaemia Care.
Their motivation was prompted by Alfie Coulson, the young son of a friend and industry colleague of SIG Roofing. In 2022, Alfie was admitted to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham with suspected Leukemia, which was later confirmed. He then began a difficult journey of treatment, which is now in the final maintenance stage and expected to be completed in March 2025. Like many others, Alfie suffered severe side effects from the treatment and has been left with a collapsed windpipe. He is now scheduled for a consultation at Great Ormond Street Hospital to assess reconstructive surgery. Throughout this challenging journey, Alfie has maintained a positive attitude, bringing strength to his family and inspiring those around him.
The cycling team, comprising of Nigel Sinon, Dan Anstey, Chris Shave, Rob Edwards, Jake Morrison, Gary Smith, Stuart Davis, Dale Gowing, Liam Shave, Andrew Primhak, Adam Colls and Pedro Ramos, are now busy training for the event and have already raised over £8000 on a dedicated JustGiving page. The team has also been sponsored by several industry suppliers: Dakea, BMI, Sandtoft, Accuroof, Russell Roof Tiles, Marley Tiles, Terreal and Permavent. These sponsors have provided assistance to fund the journey, which will be a challenge as they have all entered at varying fitness levels!
Around 34,000 individuals in the UK are affected by blood cancer each year. Leukaemia Care is a national charity that provides vital support, information and advice to anyone whose life has been affected by blood cancer.
